Before I drop the hammer and just order it from the states, does anybody have a Canadian supplier for this mig wire?

The guys at my Praxair welding shop have never heard of it before:rolleyes:. Go figure.

There was a thread/post on this subject much earlier this year and I believe a source in Canada was mentioned.
will see if I can find it.

I think I'm just gonna buy an 11lb spool for <$50 and transfer it over to some old 2lb spools. If anybody's interested, let me know.

It is somewhere in the thread titled " what did you do today (2009)".
there are 187 pages to review, I think is was in the last 1/3 of the thread.

I wrote down the info but can't seem to locate it.

Have you tried Weldco? they are more into welding stuff than Praxair.

eureka....

Acklands Grainger carry the stuff.
they are across Canada.

Two kinds.
ESAB Mig 6 in big wire baskets only, no spools.

or

OPT-S6 Mild Steel mig wire, same style as above.
comes in the 4 inch and 8 inch spools and in .023, .030 and .035 diameters
4 inch spools costs 17.35each.

Are you sure that's the same stuff? According to Esab's site, they only offer it in 0.025 or 0.030 diameters.

Sure Arc in London Ontario

:) Follow the link below to Sure Arc Welding Supply in London, Ontario - east end just off Veterans Memorial Parkway (was called Airport Road before that, previous name was Hwy #100). I always bought .025 wire and other items from their store. Great place to deal with.

 Tell them that Barry and Vicky referred you to their store.

Thanks Barry and Vicky, that's the most promising so far. I'll have to contact them.

Two manufacturers of the same stuff. ESAB is one brand, the other is made by Opti-Weld.
Acklands carries ESAB in .030, .035, .040 in 15 KG wire baskets
and Opti-weld in .023, .030, .035 in 4 inch or 8 inch spools

this is right out of their catalogue.

Kustomshoebox,
You talking about 22 Gauge can be had at BOC Gases or Linde Canada.
Goof,
Both these suppliers are local to you.

Are you talking about J.W. Harris "20 Gauge" wire Techhead?

That could be it. ;) not sure on the exact name.

Harris 20 gauge has been discontinued since Lincoln bought the company in 2008.

So far I got a no from Praxair and Linde on supplying the ESAB wire. I have been in touch with ESAB Canada and they couldn't believe the responses I received from those 2 companies.

Looks like I'm gonna be ordering from the States. I might as well buy the 11lb
role of Easy Wire and just rewind it since it is the better deal.

This is my frustration with the Canadian Business Model, it seems to be "This is what we have, take it or leave it". Then they cry when people go elsewhere.

Last year I ordered and got an 11 lb roll .025 in Easy Grind thru Praxair in Kelowna B.C.
Other info on the spool
ESA 130TF43 (not sure about the "1")
Spoolarc EG
ESAB Group.
A bit pricey, approx $75. I haven't used it yet.

Sounds like your local Praxair is a bit more helpful than mine.

I can pick it up for $48 in the USA and right now money is about par.:D

GtheG,
I would re-think about rewinding wire! If you don't wind it taut (sp?) and level, as in "levelwind" it will cause you all sorts of feeding problems, with the wire jumping over itself and binding.
